Post Conventional Development: Two Seattle Events Scheduled with Susanne Cook-Greuter!
Dr. Susanne Cook-Greuter is an internationally known authority on mature adult development. She is an experienced and dedicated teacher, and the principal of Cook-Greuter & Associates. Her Harvard thesis, Postautonomous Ego Development (1999), is a landmark study in the characteristics and assessment of late stage meaning makers. As a linguist, she continues to explore and marvel at the intricacies of language and meaning making. Susanne is a founding member of Ken Wilber’s Integral Institute and co-director of its Psychology Center. She is also a member of the Guild of American Papercutters, and loves to observe and draw nature as an insight practice. She values learning through all senses, and wishes to share her experience and knowledge of the examined mind with you.

In this advanced workshop, we will explore the nature, beauties and limits of symbolic representations. You will learn from your own experience with words, images, musical and mathematical notation, logic, jokes, illusions, poems, Koans, and by drawing from nature.
- When have you last looked at something in nature and sketched it with utmost attention and appreciation? What skills are needed to do well? Can these be learned? Do you believe you need artistic talent to be successful?
- How do different symbolic representations work? How do they serve development and how might they limit it?
- How would you communicate your wildest inner experiences without language?
If you are intrigued by such questions, this playful and intensive workshop is for you. You will practice visual literacy and learn about its connection to postconventional thought. You will also dive deeply into the beauty and conundrums of language, our chief means of communication and personal and collective growth.
